Kayakers Guide to Um Al Quwain and Ras Al Khaimah

The Um Al Quwain and Ras Al Khaimah coast sits just below the point where the Al Hajjar Mountains meet the sea and offers some excellent and varied sea kayaking. Secret rarely visited unspoilt beaches, flocks of flamingos, turtles everywhere, a huge and important colony of Socotran Cormorants are all laid out on a plate for the kayaker to find.

  1. Hi! Thanks for sharing. What are the directions? Were can I find a kayak to rent in UAQ? Is it safe to just move towards islands from town (considering speed boats and all…)?

    1. I’ve launched from a number of locations in the area including next to the fish market in town, the public beach at the RAK end and the water tank location. I havent seen a problem with fast moving boats at any time but its always worth keeping an eye open

  2. Im looking to relax and get some fresh air , was excited to see UAQ mangroves while driving by. Any good launch spots there? Cant find much info anywhere
    Thanks

    1. There are a few locations both at the UAQ town end, the RAK end (beach) and in the middle. A bit of exploring on Google Maps satellite view will find you the answers. I’m no longer in the middle east so my personal information is a bit out of date.
