Ohura Shenanigans Farm Bike Race

  • When: Saturday, 26 September 2026, 1:00–3:30pm
  • Where: Ohura Rugby Ground, King Country
  • The Vibe: A proper low-key community farm-bike relay. Teams of at least three riders, with a 125cc limit and two-wheelers only. Cheap entry, free camping, hāngī and live music afterwards — very much the grassroots end of NZ farm-bike racing.
  • Cost: $20 per rider. Free camping; showers and toilets available. Hāngī $15 koha.
  • Bike Rules: Two-wheel farm bikes only, maximum 125cc. Minimum three riders per relay team.

Taupiri / Waimate 24-Hour Farm Bike Challenge (2026 Sold Out in about a minute of entries opening)

ECOMAX RMC Taupiri 24-Hour Farm Bike Enduro (cant find dates for 2026 event)

  • When: Late February (Annually)
  • Where: North Waikato Motocross Track and surrounding properties, Taupiri
  • The Vibe: Teams of four riders take turns keeping a single, factory-stock agricultural bike running continuously for 24 hours straight through grueling day-and-night cycles to raise funds for the Waikato Rural Support Trust.

La Mullet Farm Bike Race

  • When: Early April (Annually)
  • Where: Fairfield Road, Ongaonga, Central Hawke’s Bay
  • The Vibe: A 4-hour endurance and sprint fundraiser for the Ongaonga Fire Brigade, strictly capped at traditional farm bikes under 230cc with options for solo riders or teams of up to four.

New Zealand Farm Bike Champs

  • When: Late April (Annually)
  • Where: 749 Waitomo Valley Road, Otorohanga
  • The Vibe: A 4-hour team endurance race where pairs of riders swap every 20 minutes through a pit lane and navigate a mandatory joker lane across a mixed cross-country, enduro, and motocross track.

Martinborough Farm Bike Bash

  • When: Mid-to-late July (Annually)
  • Where: Moiki Road, Martinborough, Wairarapa
  • Cost: $30 Ironman (Solo) / $50 Teams
  • The Vibe: A 2-hour winter paddock-bashing track prone to deep mud bogs, featuring an on-site community BBQ fundraiser and prizes for the best rider fancy dress costume.

MTB Race Photos Australia

I’ve had a lot of fun racing bikes in Australia the past few years. Some great riding and cool events and some truly greats mates made through it.

One thing that is really well done is the race photos, event organisers elsewhere could learn a thing or 2 from how its done.

Photos are free to competitors, they are paid for by the sponsors. I think the sponsors get a great deal from this, just have a scan down these images, they are all plastered with logos and this is how they have been shared on social media. Isnt that a great association for a brand, people out there doing it and having loads of fun then sharing with their riding mates is a very connected way, perfect!

Event- 10th May 2012 UAE Adventure Racing and Adventure HQ Desert Adventure Hike or Run

Event Overview:  18km (4 checkpoints) or 37km (6 checkpoints) over red dunes on 3/4 moonlit night. Start between 7 and 9pm. Teams of 2 (experienced) or 3.

Social-so just come and camp.

Mandatory Equipment list
1. GPS per team (Running GPS okay)
2. Camelpac/backpack/per person
3. Headtorch per person
4. Mobile per team
5. Energy food and hydration per person

Start Times:  07:00 am Cut Off Time:  08:00 am Start

Location:  Nazwa off Dubai/Hatta Road (approx 60 min from most locations in Dubai.

Finish Location:  Same as start location Course

Highlights: Red Dunes, Moonlight, Manned Checkpoints, Challenging though attainable course.

Support Stations: Each Checkpoint will have water, other drinks.

Timing: Manual Timing Registration Fee Includes:

The 2012 Hot 6 Mountain Bike Endurance Event – Friday 23rd March 2012

Organised by the Hot Cog MTB Club this 6 hr endurance event promises to be something special

 The event will take place on a specially laid out course at Showka. Each lap will be around 10km and participants can compete either as solo riders or as teams of 2. The aim will be to cover the most laps during the 6 hrs.

Showka is now the premiere destination in the UAE for mountain bikers with it’s fantastic flowing singletrack and rocky technical test pieces.

The course will take in some new bits and some old favourites.

The aim of the event is to have fun in which ever way floats your boat. If your a racing snake and out to win then great bring it on against some of the best in the region. If your more keen to just challenge yourself or even really along just to hang out and chat then thats just as great too.

The mountain bike community will be there, we’ve got great support from the trade side of things with retailers Adventure HQ, Ride Bike Shops, Micahs Bike Shop and Wolfi’s Bike shop all having a presence along with clothing brands Endura and Buff  also supporting the event.

The event is free, all we ask is you ensure your properly prepared with plenty of water and food along with a bike properly kitted out for an endurance event on ‘proper’ mountain bike trails (see pdf flyer for our suggestions on this) as well as bringing plenty of mountain biking Joie de vivre.

We’ll be camping out the night before to prepare for the event and also enjoying refreshment and socialising afterwards so please join us.

Thursday 15th March 2012 – Arabian Outdoor Social Evening

Please come and join us and the outdoor community for a social evening organised by Simon Cahill of Arabia Outdoors. Mike Nott is speaking about his extensive 4×4 adventures in the region and launching his new advanced offroading book. I’ll be warming up for him talking about my Musendam Circumnavigation Adventure that was, I believe, the first complete Khasab to Khasab circuit including the portage over the isthmus. It didnt go entirely to plan, 4 of us started and I ended up doing the journey solo due to a mild issue with deportation. Come along to the evening and I’ll tell you the whole story along with giving a guide to kayaking in this world class paddling destination.

Several New Bike Shops Opening in the UAE

The cranks are very much turning at the moment in the regions cycle retail industry. To my knowledge there are at least 4 significant new stores due to open in the next couple of months. I’ll go through them in the order I think they will open:

I think first will be Micah’s Bike Shop in the area of Al Quoz, Dubai, behind the Oasis Centre. The store is already fitted out and products are on the shelf. Not only do these guys seem to be the undisputed “Kings Of Bling” (check out the range of anodized bling products in glass cabinets) they are also the first store, to the best of my knowledge, specializing in mountain biking. The store is born from a collective from inside the local mountain biking community itself and brands include Ellesworth, Intense, Loaded and Fox. They have a spacious workshop, proven mechanical expertise, free coffee and a very social outlook. Contact them on micahsbikeshop@gmail.com or via their facebook page

Next I think it will be Revolution Cycles based out at Motor City, Dubai. A project set up by Stewart Howison of Cycle Safe Dubai fame, this store will also have a strong community base in the road scene. I don’t know yet what they’ll have in store for the mountain bikers. Stewart is a committed cyclist’s cyclist so there will be no shortage of specialist knowledge and expertise. The best way to follow this project is to ‘like’ their facebook page HERE.

Following hot on the heels of these 2 ‘independent’ are 2 from the big guns of Go Sport and Ride.

I think Go Sport will be first and this is hot news for Adu Dhabi based cyclists. Opening in the brand new Bawabat Al Sharq Mall. Ranging is likely to be similar to the Dubai Mall Go Sports with its pretty even mix of road, mountain and recreational bikes and accessories. Mid to late March 2012 is the expected opening date but I’m afraid I haven’t got any store specific contact details for you at this point in time.

Ride’s new store is likely to be last but by absolutely no means least as it is being touted as what will be the largest bike store in the GCC! This will see a big change in strategy for the Ride Bike stores as they move out of relatively small mall based stores and into some space on the Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai. This will give them room to display their extensive brand line up including Giant, Santa Cruz, Top Peak and Mavic as well as decent workshop space to. All they need is a decent clothing brand to go with their Buff offering and it will be a very complete range 😉 . Ride are very active on facebook making this the best way to keep up to date with their offering and their group can be found HERE.

So times they certainly are changing in the regions very active cycle scene. To my mind its all very very +ve and exciting.

15th March – A date for your UAE outdoor diaries

On the 15th of March Arabia outdoors are holding “An Evening of Entertainment for Outdoor Enthusiasts”. Mike Nott and myself will be speaking.

Previous social events Simon has organised have gathered together a great group of people and this evening should be no different.

Mike Nott is a regional 4×4 authority, is the author of a soon to be published Outdoor UAE Advanced Offroad Guide and has had many adventures in the region and elsewhere. He’s a great guy Mike and his stories could lead you into some great off road adventures while his advice is likely to help you come through them in one piece.

I’ll be telling the story of our mildly epic initial attempt at circumnavigating the Musendam Penninsular including its untimely end along with the successful solo mission I completed immediataly afterwards. It is a fantastic world class sea paddlers destination and as well as telling the story I hope to provide racks of information on paddling in the area along with some top tips and handy hints.
