Can I find my radio voice tomorrow?

nervous.com

Tomorrow I’m making my radio début. As a regular contributor to the magazine Outdoor UAE I’ve been asked to accompany James, the magazine’s designer, and Kit, another regular contributor, on the Dubai Today programme hosted this week by Wes on the Dubai Eye 103.8 radio station.

We’re on between 11am and 12noon. Hopefully it will be an interesting hour covering a range of different topics of interest to any one with an outdoor adventure interest.

I hope I don’t swear!!

Pics from the weekends surf safari to Oman

Just a quick post to show some photos from the weekends surf trip to Oman. 4 fantastic days organised by Carl of Surf Shop Dubai and Surf Adventures UAE.

As you can see in the photos Joes Point was a beautiful location with a great variety of waves suitable for everyone- beginners (me), shredders (Carl), long boards, short boards and SUPs.

Carl has more trips running to Joes Point, Oman, as well as surf adventures to Sri Lanka and the Maldives. After this weekend I’d give a full thumbs up and recommend anyone to make the most of Carls expertise and get themselves on one of his trips.

Lets go surfing now, everybody’s learning how, come on a safari with me….

My problem has always been I’m a kayaker! Since I first sat in a boat when I was 9 its meant the instant gratification of catching a wave without needing to stand up has always been open to me. As I got more experienced I was able to move on to paddle skis and surf at some great breaks.

BUT

I’ve always had a hankering to be able to stand up and eventually I’m getting round to making the effort. Next weekend I’m heading to Oman with Carl and Surf Adventures UAE and I’m really looking forward to it.

Kushti (wrestling) in Dubai

Kushti means wrestling (in Pakistani I believe) and each friday evening, in the Deira area of Dubai, Pakistani labourers gather to either participate in or watch the action.

Its a weird mix of strong men, theatre, sand and bagpipes and is definitely worth a look if your in town. As well as being a very different photo opportunity its also a great and very different cultural experience, not the normal Dubai style day out

Superb 2 day world class sea kayak trip

At the weekend Lee and myself did the trip I’ve been wanting to do since I completed the Circumnavigation of Musendam. Jazirat Al Hamra on the wild exposed East coast of Musendam, Oman, left a deep impression on me and I’ve been yearning to go back. I was sure a weekend trip using the roadhead at Naid in Khwar Habalayn would work well and so it did.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

This is simply an outstanding 2 day sea kayak trip. Its wild, beautiful, committing, interesting and can be challenging. I’ll post up more details soon but I wanted to share these photos with you asap.

Enjoy

Ian
